Summer

Just some news for the next few months.

First, on July 10th I’m heading to the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire for the rest of the summer. I’ll be there until early September, working on big history/cityscape book that’s coming out  in fall 2017, and some other projects. This residency came at a perfect time since I recently lost my apartment in NYC and moved back to the north bay area in CA, where I’m living in my mom’s garage. It’s not ideal and was not part of my plan at all, but I’m actually having a good time acclimating myself to where I spent the first 20 years of my life. Plus you know I’m gonna make a book out of what it’s like being in my mid 30’s and living in my parents garage. Woof. But I’m super grateful that I even have the option since I had to leave NYC so quickly without a plan in place, and it’s really a luxury to have family to fall back on when something like that happens. Plus my ma cracks me up.

Second, I’m super stoked to be included in the Best American Comics 2016! You can preorder it now or wait for more options in the fall. Roz Chast was the guest editor on this one, and she has done so much for my career in the past few years, including getting me the history comics gig at the New Yorker and putting me in this book, so I am eternally grateful to her for all she’s done. I wouldn’t be working on the history book were it not for all that.

I won’t be online while I’m gone, there is only internet in the library at MacDowell, and not in the studio cabins. But some of my monthly new comics will still run, so if you want to keep up on those, check links for the NYC history comics, then/now cityscapes, and the pseudo-advice comic I do with my older brother.

My online store for original art will still be up while I’m gone, however I can’t send anything out until I come back, so just FYI if you place an order. But you can get stuff instantly from TopatoCo! Get mugs, prints, t-shirts, totes and more! It’s a solid choice for merch because they are great to work with and treat their artists well.

Alright that’s enough about me, here’s a drawing of Cafe Grumpy, which was a block away from my old studio in Greenpoint. It’s available as a print at Topatoco!
